Fitness Loves Flowers

In a world where technology rules, many people are spending most (if not all) of their days inside glued to electronics. A study conducted by Common Sense Media found that parents spend more than nine hours a day on screens, and the majority of those hours are for personal use, not for work. I know I’m guilty of this trend and I’m constantly fighting myself to walk away from screens and get back to nature (and to do the same for my little boys).

It has been scientifically proven that time in nature improves health by lowering blood pressure, boosting immunity, reducing the production of stress hormones, and improving mental health and overall mood. Simply putting your technology aside and going outside to connect with nature is a way to improve your well-being and immediately relieve stress, fight symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep, increase your energy level, and increase memory and mental focus.

If you add exercise to your time outdoors, the impact is amplified. If you add gardening, you not only have a hobby and “focus” to increase your time and physical activity outside, but you can also increase your access to healthy, organic fruits and vegetables.

There is no wrong way to start. Go for a walk or bike ride at the park; you can go alone or include your family. Take the time to notice the canopy of trees above you, smell the fresh air of the season, and feel the earth grounding your steps. Make it a priority to gradually replace screen time with time reconnecting with nature.

It’s one little shift that can make a big difference.

Your body, mind, and soul will thank
